Pricing and Quotes
How much does a steel building cost in Canada?
The price of a steel building depends on its size, height, location, engineered loads and options like doors, insulation and finishes. A building in a heavy-snow area needs more steel than the same building in a mild climate. The fastest way to get an accurate number is to send us your dimensions and location for a firm quote.
Why don't you list prices online?
Every building is engineered for its site, so a generic price would be misleading. We'd rather give you a firm, accurate quote than a low number that changes later.
Is your quote in Canadian dollars?
Yes. All our quotes are firm and in Canadian dollars.
Do I pay duties, tariffs or brokerage fees?
No. Our buildings are made and shipped within Canada, so there are no import costs.
What's included in my quote?
Your quote lists exactly what's included, such as framing, panels, trim, doors, drawings and delivery.
Engineering
Engineering, Codes and Permits
Are your buildings engineered for my snow and wind loads?
Yes. Each building is engineered for the snow, wind and seismic loads at your specific location and to your provincial building code.
Do I need a building permit?
In most cases, yes. Rules vary by municipality and building use. We provide engineered drawings to support your application.
Are your drawings stamped by an engineer?
Yes. Your building drawings are stamped by a licensed professional engineer.
Do you provide foundation drawings?
We provide the building reactions and anchor bolt layouts your foundation engineer and contractor need. Full foundation plans are not included as standard, but can be provided when your project requires them.

Design and Options
What sizes do you build?
We engineer buildings to your required width, length and height, with clear spans of up to 200 feet wide.
What is a clear-span building?
A clear-span building has no interior columns. The frame spans the full width, giving you open, unobstructed floor space.
What's the difference between a pre-engineered and a structural steel building?
A pre-engineered metal building uses frames designed and fabricated as a system, then bolted together on site. It's efficient for low-rise buildings like warehouses, shops and farm buildings. Structural steel uses standard beams and is typically used for multi-storey or highly complex buildings.
Can I customize colours, doors and windows?
Yes. You can choose roof, wall and trim colours and place doors and windows where you need them. Try our 3D Builder to see options.
Can I insulate my building?
Yes. Insulation packages are available for heated and conditioned buildings, up to R30 and thicker where needed.
Can I expand my building later?
Yes. Steel buildings can be extended by adding bays. Let us know at the quote stage if you're planning to expand.

Timelines, Delivery and Installation
How long does it take to get a steel building?
Timelines depend on size, engineering and permitting. Contact us for a schedule based on your project.
Where do you deliver?
We deliver across Canada, coast to coast.
Do you install buildings?
Our standard package is the engineered building, drawings and delivery for your contractor to erect. Installation can be arranged on request and is quoted separately.
Can I put up the building myself?
Yes. Pre-engineered buildings bolt together on site, and your package includes erection drawings to guide you or your contractor.

Are your buildings made in Canada?
Yes. Our buildings are engineered and manufactured in Canada using Canadian steel.
Is Global Steel Buildings a Canadian company?
Yes. We're 100% Canadian owned and operated, headquartered in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
How does payment work?
Payments are tied to four project milestones:
- 25% due on signing
- 25% due with signed approval drawings
- 25% due before manufacturing
- 25% due before delivery
What warranty comes with my building?
- 40-year warranty on colour steel wall sheeting and trim
- 25-year rust-perforation warranty on Galvalume steel roof panels
- Lifetime warranty on stainless-steel fasteners
